Are these barebones packages complete with everything for a working computer? Are there barebones laptop packages?
I'm familiar with computers, but not sure about these "barebones" ads that I see on Tigerdirect.|||Not familiar with barebone computers, but familiar with computers? Hmmm! M'kay.
Barebone computers have various hardware components offered. Depends on the barebone configuration the seller is offering.
It maybe the computer case, motherboard, processor, and some ram memory, or it might be the case, motherboard, processor, graphics card, or it might be case, motherboard, processor, and power supply, or any combination of these, OR many combination's I didn't list, for a desktop computer.
(Sorry about the Run-On. Felt it was necessary)
Check carefully through what is offered in the barebone's combination.
List the parts needed. See if you are money/performance ahead by using one of their barebone combinations, and buying parts needed, or simply buying all the parts yourself, and not using a barebones combination.
Yes, they do offer barebones laptops. They're called "Whitebooks"
Here's my favorite because it's an Upgradeable laptop. It TRULY uses a Graphics Card!
-%26gt;YOU can upgrade it ANYTIME you want!
(Plus,
1. Uses Intel Core2 Duo Cpu's. Up to an Intel Core2 Extreme Edition X6800!
2.DDR2 ram at 800MHz, and up to 4GB's of it.
And a nice feature list for the barebone laptop itself.
3.Built-in 2.0 Megapixel webcam with FaceTracking feature.
4.Fingerprint Reader.
5.8-in-1 Card Reader built-in.
6.E-Sata port on the side.
7.HDMI port built-in on the side of the laptop.
8.Built-in Bluetooth
9.Comes with a DVD Dual Layer Combo drive, that plays and burns both CD's and DVD's. There are BluRay and HD drives available.
10.320GB SATA harddrive is one option that is offered.
Just SOME of the features that come stock, when you buy the barebones unit.
You have to buy and install the processor, ram memory, harddrive, and graphics card. How hard is it to install hardware? Watch the vid in link number 1 below.
Cost? Depends on what you put in. I can build a unit with parts offered for $1300, that equals laptops that cost $2500.
So can you.

Edit: Should have stated "With parts offered, or one's I buy from another source"
I would use an Intel Core2 Duo E8400, 4GB's of PC6400, (DDR2 at 800MHz), a 320GB SATA harddrive, and the Nvidia GeForce 8700M GT graphics card. (256MB's of -%26gt;DDR3 graphics ram)
Know that DDR3 graphics ram is better than DDR2. They offer a graphics card, (GeForce 8600M GT), with 512MB's of DDR2 graphics ram.
256MB's of DDR3 is better than 512MB's of DDR2.
Know also, that even though it's a GeForce 8700M GT, it is MUCH BETTER, than any comparable desktop graphics card version.
You can hook up a large monitor to the HDMI port on the side of the laptop. (Like 24 inch)
