If i want to return a faulty computer Does it have to be returned with packaging eg a cardboard box?

I purchased a computer just 3 weeks ago from Curries in London. It does not work. They have said that it cannot be returned without a cardboard box around it and maybe some polystyrene to protect it. This might sound petty but it is a beaurocratic nightmare because the first time i stayed in for delivery the delivery man said, 'Get packaging.' So, i went to a stationers and spend 3 pounds on aflimsy cardboard box, then i got some banana boxes from the supermarket for nothing. After a second visit non of this is good enough. I have explained to Currys that is suspect their demand is illegal; is it? It is certainly a nuisance. I even offered to deliver the computer to one of their stores, but they said 'No' because i purchased it from them over the phone.|||Everything that came with the computer must be returned in full. The fact that they are saying that because you bought it over the phone is irrelevant, the company is obligated to deal with your problems whether it be instore, on-line or over the phone.

Considering this is the same company that offers you the ability to buy on-line and collect in store but not to return items to the store after buying them on-line is just wrong.

If you want to give them a kick in the **** then go to computeractive's website for consumer information, they'll take some details off you and then promptly get in touch with the company to get some resolution to your problems.

I've included an email address for their department that deals purely with consumer issues.|||No, it is not illegal. If they are having a computer returned, then they own it and have every right to have it protected in transit as if it came with no protection, it wuld most likely be damaged.|||Its not illegal - the item should be packaged properly to protect it during transit.

Get some bubble wrap - thats quite a good packager.

Count yourself lucky they didn't say it had to be in the original box (which IS, incidentally, illegal)|||Have a look at the sights i have posted read through the relevant areas ,and if still unclear contact them and ask for further advice|||The sale of goods act says that the item if faulty must be replaced or a refund given. It makes no mention of packaging. If you bought it from Curry's then they are responsible for replacing or refunding. Take it to a store and ask for a refund on the grounds that it is faulty. If the try to fob you off with having it repaired then they must give you a unit to use while you are without the original. If they say they will send it back to manufacturers for test and repair do not accept. Talk loudly in the store and demand your rights under the SALE of GOODS ACT.
