We have a home computer and it has norton anitvirus,my son just got laptop, can he get a different virus prot?

or should he be able to get the one we have on the home computer included in our package?|||get anything you want...|||He can install any antivirus package he likes on that laptop.

While it is definately true that you only want to install one antivirus application on ONE computer, that does not preclude you from choosing different antivirus suites for different computers. So you can have Norton on your computer, Trend on your son's laptop and any number of antivirus apps on any other computer that happens to come into your household.

Now, one thing you may have going for you is that Norton (and most of the major antivirus producers) now sell the software in a package that allows you to legally install and use the antivirus suite on up to three computers.

If you purchased a retail version of Norton antivirus, the odds are good you have this licensing model. Check the documentation that came with the Norton software. If you do indeed have the full retail version, you should be licensed to install that on three computers. You've used one license for your computer, so you should have two licenses available. If you wish, you can use another license to install the Norton software on your son's laptop.

If you don't have the standard home-user version of Norton (for example, the version you are using came bundled with your computer when you bought it) you still have options.

Of course, you could buy a copy of Norton (or any other major retail antivirus package) for his computer. Or, you can try any of the really good free antivirus applications that are out there. Here are links to a few:

All of those are good packages... not as full featured as some of the retail products, but you can't beat the price!|||Norton sucks get avast or avg|||You probably have a single user license and will have to buy another copy whether you go with Norton or not.|||you can get anything you want. but personally i would not get norton|||if you have a norton disk that allows up to 3 installs, you can install it on his computer.|||if I was you i would cancel norton, It's a rip off I would get AVG anti-virus it is free and does the job well i have got it and my computer has never had a virus :)|||GET A MAC|||no he cannot use the one included in the package.

Once you activate the license key for your system it cannot be used again, at least not easily.

Have go to www.CNET.com

Go to the download section and download AVG antivirus

Its good and its FREE!!!!|||You can't legally use the same copy of Norton on two machines at once unless it was sold as a multi-user pack. In general, he should get his own copy of an anti-virus.

Hope that helps.|||Norton is really really really rubbish.

Try avast, it's free and works much better!|||i prefer kaspersky but he can use the one you've got just enter same key|||He can have whatever he wants.

FYI, Norton stinks. My husband downloaded the same virus TWICE when I was "protected" with Norton - in the end my computer was fried and I needed a new one (it was an 8 year old HP without a windows disk - reformat went bad). THEN he dowloaded ANOTHER virus through Norton. I was up to date on everything, it just didn't work.
