Why does my Ram not add up to how much I placed in the computer?

I have 2 GBs of Ram starting off, so today I bought 2GBs more of ram. I open the package and I place the ram in the computer, I check how much ram I have now when I start the computer back up, only 3.25 GBs, shouldn't it be 4?|||you run a 32-bit os, therefore your computer cannot use more than 3.25gb max. you need a 64 bit os to take advantage of the full 4 gb.|||Fleigh-O is right.

32-bit operating systems can only address about 3.2gb of RAM.
